Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

טָפַף Arabic طَف and دَفَّ to be brisk or nimble in walking, to trip along (trippeln), to walk with short steps, used of the walking of children (hence טַף), also of women loving display. It once occurs Isaiah 3:16, הָלוֹךְ וְטָפוֹף תֵּלַכְנָה, where Luther follows the sense happily enough: fie treten einher und fchwänzen, i.e. to wag, to waddle, like Saad. تَخْطُرْنَ, Ch. בְּפָתְהֵן מַקְּפָן. (Arab. طَفَّ and دَفَّ to be quick, as a horse, to amble; see Schrœder, De Vest. Mulier. page 127. Kindred words are tappen, trappen, and its diminutive trippeln.)
