 [חִשָּׁבוֺן] noun masculine device, invention (compare Lag BN 200) — only plural absolute חִשְּׁבֹנוֺת; עָשָׁה הָאֱלֹהִיםאֶתהָֿאָדָם יָשָׁר וְהֵמָּה בִקְשׁוּ חִשְּׁבֹנוֺת רַבִּים Ecclesiastes 7:29 God made mankind upright but they sought out many devices; וַיַּעַשׂ חִשְּׁבֹנוֺת מַחֲשֶׁבֶת חֹוֺשֵׁב 2 Chronicles 26:15 and he made contrivances (i.e. engines of war for hurling stones and arrows, see v b) the invention of inventive men.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

חִשָּׁבוֹן plur. חִשְּׁבֹנוֹת m. (Ecc. loc. cit.) [“prop. inventions”].

(1) warlike engines, specially for casting darts or stones (compare חָשַׁב No. 1, comp. ingenium, which in mediæval Latin was used for a ballista, properly signifying a machine ingeniously constructed-hence the French ingénieur [and the English engineer]). 2 Chronicles 26:15.

(2) arts, devices. Ecclesiastes 7:29.
