 [חָדַד] verb be sharp, keen (Aramaic חֲדַד; Late Hebrew חִדֵּד sharpen; Arabic be sharp and sharpen; Assyrian Pi`el uddudu, sharpen, Dl Proverbs 174, W 121) —

Qal Perfect וְחַדּ֫וּ מִזְּאֵבֵי עֶרֶב consecutive Habakkuk 1:8 are keener than evening wolves (of impetuous Chaldean horses).

Hiph`ilהֵחֵד (Che Or Brd) or יַחֵד (Näg compare Dr§ 123a, R), insert Isaiah 44:12 after ᵐ5ᵑ6: the smith sharpeneth an axe.

Hoph`al Perfect 3 feminine singular הוּחַדָּה Ezekiel 21:14; Ezekiel 21:15; Ezekiel 21:16 be sharpened (in all, subject חֶרֶב). — See also 1. חדה.

חָדַד [future יָחַד]

(1)  to be sharp, to be sharpened. (Arab. حَدَّ fut. I. Kindred roots, גָּדַד, and the words there cited.) Proverbs 27:17 (see Hiphil.)

(2) to be swift, like many other words signifying sharpness, which are used also in the sense of swiftness, see Gr. ὀξύς, θόος, Lat. acer, Syr. ܚܪܦܰ. Habakkuk 1:8. Comp. חָרַץ.

Hiphil, to sharpen. Proverbs 27:17, בַּרְזֶל בְּבַרְזֶל יָחַד וְאִישׁ יַחַד פְּנֵי־רֵעֵהוּ “as iron is sharpened on iron, so a man sharpens the face of another.” יָחַד is fut. A. Kal for יָחֹד, יַחַד fut. Hiphil, formed in the Chaldee manner for יַחֵד, יַחֵד, like יַחֵל Numbers 30:3, אַחֵל Ezekiel 39:7. See Lehrg. § 38, 1; 103, note 14.

Hophal הוּחַד to be sharpened, spoken of a sword, Ezekiel 21:14, 15 Ezekiel 21:15, 16 Ezekiel 21:16.
