אֱוִיל pl. אֱוִילִים m. (root אָוַל).

(1) a fool, foolish, either as an adj. אִישׁ אֱוִיל Proverbs 29:9; Hosea 9:7, or as is more often the case, as a subst. Job 5:2; Isaiah 19:11, 35:8 Proverbs 7:22, 10:14 11:29 14:3 15:5 opposed to the prudent (עָרוּם), Proverbs 12:16, and to the wise (חָכָם), Proverbs 10:14 sometimes

(2) it includes the notion of impiety, Job 5:3.
