Ag. 1057; πολυθύτους τεύχειν ς. to offer many sacrifices, S. Tr. 756: also in Prose, ὑπὸ σφαγῆς Pl. R. 610b; θανάτους τε καὶ σφαγάς Id. Lg. 682e; σφαγὰς ποιεῖσθαι X. HG 4.4.2; σφαγὰς τῶν γνωρίμων ποιήσαντες ib. 2.2.6, cf. Isoc. 8.96, D. 19.260; ἐν ταῖς πόλεσι σφαγὰς ἐμποιοῦντες Isoc. 5.107.

P Cairo Zen II. 59258.4 (B.C. 252) τοῦ τετάρ [του καὶ ] τριακοστοῦ ἔτους, P Par 49.21 (before B.C. 161) (= UPZ i. p. 309) σησάμου τέταρτον, P Oxy XIV. 1672.14 (A.D. 37–41) τὰ (sc. οἰνάρια) τῆς [τ ]ετάρτης ληνοῦ μόνης, ";the wine of the fourth press only"; (Edd.), ib. X. 1293.25 (A.D. 117–38) ὑστερῶ τέταρτα δ [ ]ο, ";I want two quarters (?)"; (Edd.), ib. VIII. 1102.9 (c. The classical τέτρας to denote the 4th day of the month is seen in such passages as P Ryl II. 197.7 (late ii/A.D.) Ἁθὺρ. . . τετράδι. It is retained in the LXX proper, and is found in the title of the Psalms 93:1-5 [MT Psalms 94:1-23] with reference to the fourth day of the week, as in MGr : see Thackeray Gr. i. p. 189.
