Vocabulary of the Greek NT

This rare word = ";council,"; as in Acts 25:12, is well illustrated by P Tebt II. 286.15 (A.D. 121–138) where the presiding judge is described as ἀνασ [τὰ ]ς εἰς [σ ]υμ [βούλιον κ [αὶ σκεψάμ [ενος. . . (as restored by Wilcken Archiv v. p. 232) : cf. also Acts 26:30. Other instances of the word are BGU I. 288.14 (A.D. 138–161) κ [α ]θημέν ̣ω ̣ν ̣ ἐν συμβουλίῳ ἐν τῷ πραι [τωρίῳ, II. 511i. 15 (written c. A.D. 200) ]ν συμβουλείῳ. . . . ἐκάθισεν, and P Ryl II. 75.29 (judicial proceedings—late ii/A.D.) ἐν τῷ συμβουλίω ̣ ε ̣ ̣π ̣ε ̣ν ̣.

Similarly we may cite Syll 316 (=.3684).11 (ii/B.C.) μετὰ τοῦ πα [ρ ]όν [το ]ς (σ)υνβουλίου, ib. 328 (= .3741).8 (after B.C. 88) ἐπὶ τοῦ συνβουλίο [υ, = coram consilio, and ib. 334 (=.3747).7, .29 al. (B.C. 73).
