πίμπλημι; (a lengthened form of the theme ΠΛΑΩ, whence πλέος, πλήρης (cf. Curtius, § 366)): 1 aorist ἔπλησα; passive, 1 future πλησθήσομαι; 1 aorist ἐπλήσθην; from Homer on; the Sept. for מָלֵא, also for הִשְׂבִּיעַ (to satiate) and passive, שָׂבַע (to be full); to fill: τί, Luke 5:7; τί τίνος (Winer's Grammar, § 30, 8 b.), a thing with something, Matthew 27:48; (John 19:29 R G); in the passive, Matthew 22:10; Acts 19:29; (ἐκ τῆς ὀσμῆς, John 12:3 Tr marginal reading; cf. Winers Grammar, as above note; Buttmann, § 132, 12). what wholly takes possession of the mind is said to fill it: passive, φοβοῦ, Luke 5:26; θάμβους, Acts 3:10; ἀνοίας, Luke 6:11; ζήλου, Acts 5:17; Acts 13:45; θυμοῦ, Luke 4:28; Acts 3:10; πνεύματος ἁγίου, Luke 1:15, 41, 67; Acts 2:4; Acts 4:8, 31; Acts 9:17; Acts 13:9. prophecies are said πλησθῆναι, i. e. to come to pass, to be confirmed by the event, Luke 21:22 G L T Tr WH (for Rec. πληρωθῆναι). time is said πλησθῆναι, to be fulfilled or completed, i. e. finished, elapsed, Luke 1:23, 57 (Winers Grammar, 324 (304); Buttmann, 267 (230)); f; so נִמְלָא, Job 15:32; and מִלֵּא to (ful-)fill the time, i. e. to complete, fill up, Genesis 29:27; Job 39:2. (Compare: ἐμπίπλημι.)

trans. form in pres. and impf. of πλήθω (intrans. in these tenses), which supplies the other tense forms;

to fill: c. acc, Luke 5:7; c. acc et gen., Matthew 27:48; pass., Matthew 22:10, Acts 19:29; of that which fills or takes possession of the mind : pass., c. gen., Luke 1:15; Luke 1:41; Luke 1:67; Luke 4:28; Luke 5:26; Luke 6:11, Acts 2:4; Acts 3:10; Acts 4:8; Acts 4:31; Acts 5:17; Acts 9:17; Acts 13:9; Acts 13:45. Metaph. (as in LXX for H4390: Genesis 29:27, Job 15:32), to complete, fulfil: pass., of prophecy, Luke 21:22; of time, Luke 1:23; Luke 1:57; Luke 2:6; Luke 2:21-22 (cf. ἐμ -πίμπλημι ).†

With 2 Timothy 2:4 ταῖς τοῦ βίου πραγματίαις, ";the businesses which provide a livelihood,"; cf. the designation for officials in P Leid Bii. 19 (B.C. 164) (= I. p. 10, UPZ i. 20.42) δεόμεθα οὖν ὑμῶν. . . μὴ ὑπεριδεῖν ἡμᾶς παρελκομένας ὑπὸ τῶν πρὸς τα [ ]ς πραγματείαις, and similarly P Tebt I. 5.161 (B.C. 118). A wider meaning is found in PSI IV. 435.16 (B.C. 258–7) ἀλλὰ περὶ πραγματείας ἧς καὶ ὡμολογήκεις μοι, ";only in the matter in which you had already given me assurance."; See further s.v. πραγματεύομαι.
