Vocabulary of the Greek NT

πλάνη has apparently the act. sense of ";deceit"; in BGU IV. 1208.6 (B.C. 27–6) δι᾽ οὗ [μοι ] ἱστορεῖς τὴν [Καλατύ ]τεως πλ ̣[άν ]η ̣ν, ";by means of which (sc. a writing-tablet) you are acquainting me with the deceit of Kalatytis."; Cf. Kaibel 351.3 πάσα [ι ]σ [ι ] πλάνη [ς τ ]έχν [αι ]ς, where the editor understands the word as denoting the craft and stratagem which hunters use against wild beasts. See further s.v. πλανάω. In the NT πλάνη is generally, if not always, used in the pass. sense of ";error"; : cf. Armitage Robinson ad Ephesians 4:14.
