STRONGS NT 2942a: κυκλεύω κυκλεύω: 1 aorist ἐκύκλευσα; to go round (Strabo and other later writers); to encircle, encompass, surround: τήν παρεμβολήν, Revelation 20:9 (where R G Tr ἐκύκλωσαν); (τινα, John 10:24 Tr marginal reading WH marginal reading; (see WH's Appendix, p. 171)).

Vocabulary of the Greek NT

κυβερνήτης in the sense of ";steersman,"; ";pilot,"; is common, e.g. P Oxy II. 276.6 (A.D. 77) κυβερνῆται π [λ ]οίο [υ ] ναυλωσίμου, ib. III. 522.15 (ii/A.D.) ναυτικ (οῦ) Ὡρίωνος κυβε (ρνήτου), P Tebt II. 370.3 (ii/iii A.D.) κυβερνήτου πλοίου. In OGIS 676.3 (A.D. 106–7) (= Archiv ii. p. 439, No. 43) we hear of an official described as—κυβερνήτου Νείλου. In Acts 27:11 τῷ κυβερνήτῃ καὶ τῷ ναυκλήρῳ is rendered by Ramsay (Paul, p. 322) ";the sailing-master and the captain.";

Isis is described as κυβερνῆτις in the literary papyrus P Oxy XI. 1380.69 (early ii/A.D.).
