Vocabulary of the Greek NT

The idea of ";favourable opportunity"; underlying the word comes out well in P Eleph 29.7 ἐὰν δὲ μὴ εὐκαιρῇς τ ̣[ο ]ῦ διαβῆναι, P Par 46.18 (B.C. 153) (= Witkowski.2, p. 87) αὐτὸς δέ, ὡς ἂν (cf. Romans 15:24, 1 Corinthians 11:34, Philippians 2:23) εὐκαιρήσω, παραχρῆμα παρέσομαι πρὸς σέ, P Giss I. 67.14 (ii/A.D.) ̣ὰν εὐκαιρήσ ̣ῃ Ἠ ̣ράκλειο ̣ς ̣ καὶ ἀρετήση ̣ται αὐτοῦ, BGU IV. 1035.12 (1st half v/A.D.) Θεὸς οἶδεν ὁ.μόνος [ ]ὰν οὐκ εὐκέρημε (l. ηὐκαίρημαι) εἰς Ὀξυρύγχων κακὸν ειχι (l. ἄγχι ?) γενέσθαι, and Michel 1499 B. .4 (B.C. 171) τ [οῖς πρεσβευτα ]ῖς ἐλθοῦσιν συνέθηκεν, καίπερ οὐκ εὐκαιρῶν. For the meaning ";have time or leisure,"; as in Mark 6:31 and MGr εὐκαιρέζω, see PSI IV. 425.29 (iii/B.C.) εἰ δὲ μὴ εὐκαιρεῖ τις τῶν παρά σοι γραμματέων, ἀπόστειλόν μοι κτλ. : a different meaning is found in ib. 392.9 (B.C. 242–1) δοὺς Ἀμμων ̣ι ̣ωι τῶι κεκομικότι σοι τὴν ἐπιστολὴν ὅσον ἄν ποτε εὐκαιρῆις, where the editor renders ";quanto puoi senza disturbo.";
