I set upon, τινὰ ἐπί τι Hp. Art. 78: abs., (sc. κλίμακι) ibid.; τινὰ ἐν ἅρματι LXX 4 Ki.. 10.16; ἐν ὅπλοις ἀφανῶς ἐ. τὸ στρατιωτικόν J. AJ 18.3.1: Med., φυλακὴν ἐπεκαθίσαντο had a guard set, Th. 4.130 (ἐπικαθίσταντο Poppo).

II. Intr.,

1. sit upon, πειθώ τις ἐπεκάθιζεν ἐπὶ τοῖς χείλεσι Eup. 94.5; τοῖς καρχησίοις ἐ. light upon, Plu. Them. 12, cf. Thphr. CP 6.10.5.

ἐπικαθίζω is found in the NT only in Matthew 21:7. Cf. ἐπικάθημαι in P Tebt II. 391.11 (A.D. 99) τοὺς ἐν τῇ κώμῃ καταγινομένους καὶ ἐπικαθημένους ἄνδρες (l. ας), ";the inhabitants of and settlers in the village"; (Edd.).
