1 at ease, secure: ׳נָוֶה שׁ Isaiah 33:20 , secure habitation (of Jerusalem), compare ׳מְנוּחוֺת שׁ Isaiah 32:18 ("" מִבְטָחִים).

2 as substantive, one at ease, free from misfortune, Job 12:5.

3 at ease, with collateral idea of careless, wanton, arrogant, Amos 6:1; Isaiah 32:9,11; Zechariah 1:15; Psalm 123:4.

שַׁאֲנָן pl. שַׁאֲנַנִּים adj.

(1)  tranquil, said of a habitation, Isaiah 33:20 living tranquilly, securely, Job 12:5 (compare שַׁלְאֲנָן 21:23 ).

(2) in a bad sense, living at ease, careless, proud, (secundis rebus, ferox, Sallust, Jug. 94), Psalms 123:4; Amos 6:1; Isaiah 32:9, 11 Isaiah 32:11, 18 Isaiah 32:18. Compare בָּטַח No. 2, b, שָׁלִוִ, שַׁלְוָת, and Schultens, Animadvv. on Job 26:5. Subst. pride, arrogance, Isaiah 37:29; 2 Kings 19:28.
