(1) of the capital city of the Ammonites, 2 Samuel 11:1, 12:27 Joshua 13:25; 1 Chronicles 20:1 Jerem. 49:3 (not Psalms 110:6); fully רַבַּת בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן Deuteronomy 3:11 Gr. Phlia delphia, in Abulfeda, and also at present عَمَّانُ (Tab. Syriæ, p. 91), compare as to its ruins, Seetzen in v. Zach’s Monatl. Correspond., xviii, p. 429; and Burckhardt, Travels in Syria, p. 612-618; compare p. 1062, Germ. ed.

(2) of a town in the tribe of Judah, Joshua 15:60.
