Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

קוּץ i.q. קוּט

(1)  to be weary of any thing, to loathe. (The primary signification I think to be that of vomiting, so that it is onomatopoetic, like the corresponding German verb, comp. קוֹא.) Followed by בְּ of pers., Leviticus 20:23; Numbers 21:5.

(2) to fear, followed by מִפְּנֵי Exodus 1:12; Numbers 22:3; Isaiah 7:16 both of these significations are also found conjoined in the verbs ضَجَرَ, مَلَّ, קְנַט, and German Erauen haben vor etwas.

Hiphil הֵקִיץ to put a city in fear, i.e. to besiege it, Isaiah 7:6 compare Arab. ضجر Conj. III. to cause to fear, to besiege.

II.

קוּץ only in

Hiphil הֵקִיץ intrans. to be aroused, i.q. יָקַץ out of sleep, Psalms 3:6, 73:20 from the slumber of death, Job 14:12; Daniel 12:2. Imp. הָקִיצָה i.q. עוּרָה awake, arise (O Lord), Psalms 35:23.

III.

קוּץ

(1) i.q. קָצַץ to cut, to cut up, or off. Hence קוֹץ a thorn, so called from the idea of cutting or wounding, and קַיִץ harvest, pr. the cutting off of fruits, summer. From this noun is derived

(2) to pass the summer. (Arabic قَاظَ Med. Ye, id), Isaiah 18:6. See חָרַף No. 2.
