Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

עָמָל m. (once f. Ecclesiastes 10:15)

(1)  heavy, wearisome labour, Ecclesiastes 1:3, 2:11 used figuratively of the mind, Psalms 73:16.

(2) the produce of labour, Psalms 105:44; Ecclesiastes 2:19.

(3) weariness, trouble, vexation, Gr. κάματος, πόνος, Genesis 41:51; Deuteronomy 26:7; Job 3:10, 16:2, מְנַחֲמֶי עָמָל “troublesome comforters.” Isaiah 53:11, מֵעֲמַל נַפְשׁוֹ “of the sorrow (or anguish) of his soul.” It is rendered by some, sin, wickedness (i.q. אָוֶן), Numbers 23:21; Isaiah 10:1 but the signification of vexation is not unsuitable in both places.

(4) [Amal], pr.n. m. 1 Chronicles 7:35.
