(1)  to flee from any person or thing, followed by מִן Isai. 24:18 מִפְּנֵי 2 Samuel 23:11 followed by לִפְנֵי Deuteronomy 28:25; Joshua 7:4.- Leviticus 26:36, וְנָסוּ מְנֻסַת־חֶרֶב Vulg. fugient quasi gladium.-Used of inanimate things; e.g. the waves, Psalms 104:7 of grief, Isaiah 35:10, 51:11 vigour, freshness, Deuteronomy 34:7; Song of Solomon 2:17 and 4:6, in describing the evening, נָסוּ הַצְּלָלִים “the shadows flee away,” i.e. they are become long and stretched out, and as it were flee from us. Once נָס לוֹ, French, il s’enfuit, Isaiah 31:8 compare לְ No. 4, a.

(2) to hasten, to be borne swiftly (comp. נֶחְפַּז, נִבְהַל, Lat. fugio, Virg. Georg. iii. 462), Isaiah 30:16.

Piel נוֹסֵס to impel. Isaiah 59:19, “a confined stream רוּחַ יְהֹוָה נֹסְסָה בוֹ which the wind of Jehovah impels.” [Qu. as to the rendering and connection of these words.]

Hiphil הֵנִיס

(1) to put to flight, to make flee, Deuteronomy 32:30.

(2) to take any thing away by flight, and to put it in safety (etwas flüchten), Exodus 9:20; Judges 6:11.

Hithpalel הִתְנוֹסֵס to betake oneself to flight, Psalms 60:6 comp. נָסַס No. II.
