Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

בְּרוֹשׁ pl. בְּרוֹשִׁים m.

(1)  the cypress, a tall tree, Isaiah 55:13, and fruit-bearing, Hosea 14:9 together with the cedar, to which it is very often joined, the principal ornament of Lebanon (Isaiah 14:8, 37:24 60:13 Zechariah 11:2, comp. verse Zechariah 11:1); the wood of which, equally with that of the cedar, was used for the planks of the temple of Jerusalem (1Ki. 5:22, 24 1Ki 5:24 6:15, 34 1 Kings 6:34; 2 Chronicles 2:7, 3:5 ); for the decks of ships (Ezekiel 27:5); also, for spears (Nahum 2:4); and instruments of music (2 Samuel 6:5); once, by a Syriacism, called בְּרוֹת, Song of Solomon 1:17. That the cypress, not the fir, is to be understood, is clear both from the nature of the case, and also from the authority of the ancient versions; although this name may perhaps have comprehended also other trees of the pine kind. See this more fully stated in Thes. page 246. As to the etymology, the cypress appears to be so called from the boards and planks cut from it; see the root.

(2) something made of cypress wood.

(a) a lance, Nahum 2:4.

(b) a musical instrument, 2 Samuel 6:5.
