Jus Gazaka

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

The usual Italian term for the right of ḤAZAḲAH, especially with regard to the rent of houses in the ghetto of Rome. Clement VIII. made it part of the law relating to Jewish tenant-right there. Several publications containing cases bearing on this law are mentioned in Berliner, "Gesch. der Juden in Rom," 2:225, Frankfort-on-the-Main, 1893 (see also Abrahams, "Jewish Life in the Middle Ages," pp. 68 et seq.).
