1. One of David's thirty guards, and captain for the seventh month of the service of the Temple; an Ephraimite (2 Samuel 23:26; 1 Chronicles 11:27, 27:10). In the first passage he is called "the Paltite," in the last two "the Pelonite." Kennicott ("Dissertation," pp. 183 et seq.) thinks the latter the correct form. 2. A man of Judah, and a descendant of the family of Hezron (1 Chronicles 2:39).
