Hauran
The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia
A region east of the Jordan and north of Gilead, reaching east to the desert. It is mentioned in Ezekiel 47:16,18, in connection with the eastern border of the land of Israel, as the land between Damascus and Gilead. The homonymous mountain Hauran ( and ) is mentioned in the Mishnah (R. H. 2:4) as one of the stations upon which fire-signals were given in order to announce the new-moon and festival days to the Jewish inhabitants of Babylonia. See PALESTINE
