The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

One of the northwestern states of the American Union. It was organized as a territory in 1864, and admitted as a state in 1889. It has the following Jewish communities: Helena, the capital of the state, with a benevolent association founded in 1872 and a congregation, Emanu-El, founded in 1887. Its rabbi is Jacob Mielziner. Helena has also a social club and a ladies' auxiliary society. Butte, with two congregations. Of the older, the B'nai Israel, founded in 1897, the present rabbi is Harry Weiss; the community has a Hebrew benevolent association founded in 1881. Anaconda, with a congregation, B'nai Israel.
