Ashkenazi (Tiktin), Judah B. Simon Sofer Frankfurt

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

Polish commentator on the ShulḦan 'Aruk; officiated as "dayyan" (assistant rabbi) at Tikotzin, Poland, in the first half of the eighteenth century. He wrote ("Explaining Well"), which comments briefly on the first three parts of the ShulḦan 'Aruk. A similar commentary on the fourth part of the ShulḦan 'Aruk—that is, on the "Ḥoshen Mishpaṭ"—was written by Moses Frankfurter, dayyan of Amsterdam. Ashkenazi's work was appended to the ShulḦan 'Aruk in the editions of Amsterdam, 1753 and 1760, and went through many editions.
