Angyal (Engel), Anna

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

Hungarian author; born at Veszprim, 1848, died 1874; the daughter of a teacher in the town of Hód-Mezö-Vásárhely. Versed in the literature of Hungary, France, and Germany, from a very early age, she began her literary career in her sixteenth year. Her first novel, "Adventures of a Hungarian Family," was published in the "Szegedi Hiradó," a Hungarian magazine. In 1865 she published in the "Magyar Izsráelita" a short novel entitled "Prejudices," in which she described the condition of the Jews in Hungary. Her historical novel, "Jlonka és Elemér," was published in 1868.
