Amana

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

1. River rising in Anti-Lebanon and flowing through Damascus, the modern Nahr Barada (2 Kings, 5:12, where there is a variant, Abana; see ABANA). 2. Mountainous district of the Lebanon from which the Amana river rises (Song of Solomon 4:8). It occurs in cuneiform literature as Am-ma-na (Delitzsch, "Wo Lag das Paradies?" p. 103).
