Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Heb. Tsilpah', זַלַפָּה, a trickling; Sept. Ζελφά v.r. Ζελφάν; Josephus, Ζελφά,l Ant. 1, 19,7; Vulg. Zelpha), a female servant of Laban, whom he gave to Leah on her marriage with Jacob (Genesis 29:24), and whom Leah eventually induced him to take as a concubine wife, in which capacity she became the mother of Gad and Asher (Genesis 30:9-13; Genesis 35:26; Genesis 37:2; Genesis 46, 18).
