Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Heb. Zerachyah', זְרִחְיָה , Jehovah has risen; Sept. Σαραϊ v α v.r. Ζαραία ), the name of two Hebrews.

1. A priest, son of Uzzi and father of Meraioth, in the ancestry of the later Jewish pontiffs (1 Chronicles 6:6; 1 Chronicles 6:51 [Heb. 5:32; 6:30]), and of Ezra (Ezra 7:4). B.C. cir. 1350. (See HIGH-PRIEST).

2. Father of Elihoenai "of the sons of Pahath-moab" (Ezra 8:4). B.C. ante 459.
