a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was born at Newbern, N.C., March 31, 1807. He was licensed (1828) by the Supreme Court of his state to practice law, but, meeting with a change of heart, he felt it his duty to preach, and in 1831 was admitted into the Virginia Conference.
