a minister of the German Reformed Church, was born in Germany, and emigrated to this country in 1845. He studied theology privately, and commenced preaching in Cincinnati in 1856; two years later he was regularly ordained, and installed as pastor of the Salem church. His first sermon, it is said, was preached to six hearers. At the time of his death, in 1873, his congregation numbered between seven and eight hundred members.
