Remeth

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Heb. id. רֶמֶת , height; Sept. ῾Ραμμάθ v. r. ῾Ραμμάς ), a city in the territory of Issachar (Joshua 19:21), called, as it seems, RAMOTH (See RAMOTH) (q.v.) in 1 Chronicles 6:73. As the place is named in the first of the above passages next to En-gannim (Jenin), the site is possibly represented by a tell with ruins south of Zerin (Jezreel) between Sundela and Mukeibileh. Dr. Porter (in Kitto's Cyclop. s.v.) suggests that the place may be identical with the ruined fortress and village called Wezar, perched upon the northern rocky face of Mt. Gilboa (Robinson, Researches, 3:157, 160; new ed. 3, 339).
