Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(ἐπίβλημα ,- something put on, piece," Matthew 9:16; Mark 2:21; Luke 5:36), taken (torn off from ῥήγνυμι ) from a fragment or remnant (ῥάκος, literally rag, "cloth'") of new material, to mend a rent in a garment. (See SEW).
