Only-Begotten

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(μονογενής , from. μόνος, only, and γίνομαι , to be born), an epithet of Jesus Christ, expressive of his peculiar relation to the Godhead (John 1:14, etc.). The term properly means an only child (Luke 7:12). (See SON OF GOD).
