Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
as a disease, is the rendering of the Heb. שִׁחֶפֶת, shache'pheth (occurs only Leviticus 26:10; Deuteronomy 28:22), from שָׁחִפ, shachaph', to pine away; and probably designates a wasting malady. (See DISEASE).
