a Congregational minister, was born at Barnard, Vt., April 11, 1810. He graduated at Dartmouth College in 1834, and at Andover Theological Seminary in 1840. He was a licentiate at Weymouth, Mass., from 1840 to 1841; teacher at Ridgebury, N.Y., from 1843 to 1845; principal of the Clinton-place Institute, New York city; and afterwards clerk in the New York Custom-house.
