Becker, Johann Herrmann

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a German theologian, brother of the preceding, was born at Rostock, Dec. 10, 1700. Besides theology he studied jurisprudence at his native place, Halle, Jena, Erfurt, Leipsic, and Helmstidt. In 1734 he was appointed archdeacon of St. Mary's, in his native place; he accepted a call in 1746 as professor of theology and pastor of St. James, at Greifswaldie; and in 1747 he was made doctor of theology. In 1751 he accepted a call to Lubeck, as pastor of St. Mary's; and he died April 7, 1759. He wrote, Funltinentum Prcelectionum Physico - dogmaticarum (Rostock, 1725, 1736): Anthropologia Physico- theologica (ibi4. 1734): Diss.
