an English Congregational minister, was born at Petrockstow, Devonshire, in 1800. He was brought up in the Church of England, but afterwards adopted the principles of Congregationalism. He studied with a view to the ministry at Homerton College, but because of ill-health he did not complete his course. Mr. Ayre's first charge was in Northamptonshire; from there he removed to Ullesthorpe, Leicestershire, and then to Long Itchington; from thence to Southam, and finally to Morpeth, where he was pastor for twenty-five years, residing there until his death, April 30, 1877.
