Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Hebrew Ayah', אִיָּה , prop. a cry, hence a hawk, as often), the name of two men.

1. (Sept. Ἀϊέ; but Αἰά, Auth. Vers. "Aiah" in Chronicles) The first named of the two sons of Zibeon the Horite or rather Hivite (Genesis 36:24; 1 Chronicles 1:40), B.C. ante 1964.

2. (Sept. Αἰά , but in 2 Samuel 3:7 v. r. Ι᾿ώλ, Auth. Vers. "Aiah.") The father of Rizpah, King Saul's concubine (2 Samuel 3:7; 2 Samuel 21:8-11), B.C. ante 1093.
