a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born at Soest, in Westphalia, Nov. 25, 1588. He studied at Marburg, Giessen, and Rostock; and in the latter place, when twenty-one years old (in 1609), he became doctor and professor of theology, and as such he labored there until his death, Feb. 28, 1624. He took an active part in the controversies of his time, and wrote on Christ's ubiquity, baptism, and the Lord's supper, against Roman Catholics and Calvinists, chiliasts and enthusiasts.. Fifty years after his death, Dr. G. Mebius, in Leipsic, published his writings, Syntagma Exercitationum Acad., in 2 vols.-the first containing the Scripta Poleenica, the second Scipta Exegetica.
