International Standard Bible Encyclopedia
ū´lam ( אוּלם , 'ūlām , "preceding"):
(1) A "son"of Peresh; a Manassite clan (1 Chronicles 7:16 , 1 Chronicles 7:17 ). Lucian reads Ἠλάμ , Ēlám .
(2) A descendant of Benjamin who had sons, "mighty men of valor" (1 Chronicles 8:39 , 1 Chronicles 8:40 ). The Septuagint's Codex Vaticanus has Αίλάμ , Ailám in 1 Chronicles 8:39 and Αίλείμ , Aileı́m in 1 Chronicles 8:40; Codex Alexandrinus has Οὐλάμ , Oulám in both verses, and so Lucian.
