a -mash´sı̄ עמשׁסי , ‛ămashṣay , probably a textual error for עמשׁי , ‛ămāshay ; the ס ("s") implies a reading עמסי , based on a mistaken derivation from עמס . The original reading may have been עמּשׁי , ‛ămmishay ; compare AMASAI ): Amashsai is a priestly name in the post-exilic list of inhabitants of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 11:13; Maasai , 1 Chronicles 9:12 ); the reading in Chronicles is מעשׂי , ma‛ăsay , the King James Version "Maasiai," the Revised Version (British and American) "Maasai.»Copyright Statement
