Tezpur

1911 Encyclopedia Britannica

or Tejpur, a town of British India, the administrative headquarters of Darrang district, Eastern Bengal and Assam, on the right bank of the Brahmaputra. Pop. (1901) 5047. It is the centre of a flourishing tea industry, and contains many houses of English residents. Communications are maintained by river steamer, while a light railway runs northward through the tea-growing tract.
