(1) A town of West Siberia, in the government of Tomsk, on the Chaus river, 5 m. from the Ob and 120 M. S.S.W. of the city of Tomsk. It is a wealthy town, the merchants carrying on a considerable export trade in cattle, hides, tallow, corn and fish. It was founded in 1713 under the name of Chausky Ostrog, and has grown rapidly.
