1911 Encyclopedia Britannica

priestly or sacred (Gr. 1EpartKOS, icpos, sacred), a term particularly applied to a style of ancient Egyptian writing, which is a simplified cursive form of hieroglyphic. The name was first given by Champollion (see EGYPT, § Language).
