Asphyxia
1911 Encyclopedia Britannica
(Gr. apriv., v0u cs, a pulse), a term in medicine, literally signifying loss of pulsation, which is applied to describe the arrestment of the function of respiration from some hindrance to the entrance of air into the lungs. (See RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: Pathology.)
