To put off the shoes from one's feet, was an act of reverence to the Divine majesty of God, Exodus 3:5 . It was likewise a sign of mourning and humiliation. David went up the ascent of Mount Olivet barefoot, 2 Samuel 15:30; Isaiah 20:2; Isaiah 20:4; Ezekiel 24:17 . See SANDAL .
