the second son of Levi, and father of Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, Genesis 46:11; Exodus 6:18 . Kohath's family was appointed to carry the ark and sacred vessels of the tabernacle, while the Israelites marched through the wilderness, Num. iv, &c.
