Eve (çve), life. The wife of Adam, and mother of mankind. Her formation, her yielding to the tempter, and inducing Adam to join her in disobedience to the divine command, the promise in respect to her seed, and the names she imposed on three of her sons, indicating her expectations and feeling in regard to them, are narrated in Genesis 2:1-25; Genesis 3:1-24; Genesis 4:1-26.
