Southwark, England, Archdiocese of
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
Comprises the London Boroughs south of the Thames, the county of Kent and the Medway Unitary Authority. Saint Augustine of Canterbury landed on the coast of Kent in 597, and there Christianity was first preached in the Saxon language by him. Founded as the diocese of Southwark on September 29, 1850. Elevated to an archdiocese on May 28, 1965. Suffragan dioceses include
