1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(Latin: covering)

White wool circular band two inches wide, having two twelve-inch, weighted pendants hanging, one in front and one behind. It is ornamented with six small black crosses and is worn about the neck, breast and shoulders, over the chasuble, by the pope, and archbishops during certain ceremonies.
