(Italian: mozzo, cut short)
Short, cape-shaped garment of silk or wool, colored red, violet or black, reaching to the elbow and with an open front that may be fastened with a row of small buttons. At the neck there is a small ornamental hood. It is worn by the pope, but by special privilege it may be worn by cardinals and certain abbots and bishops. The mozzetta is a non-liturgical vestment.
