Matrimonial Separation

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

The separation or husband and wife, or a limited divorce from bed and board, without the right of remarriage until the death of one of parties, is sometimes permitted by the Church on account of adultery, or lapse into heresy, or the entrance into a religious life on the part of husband or wife. The common married life ceases but the marriage bond remains intact (1 Corinthians 7; Mark 10; Matthew 19). If there is a grave danger to the body or soul of the of the parties, a temporary separation is permitted, until the danger ceases.
